What’s in a Domain Name?
When it comes to registering your own domains, Dynadot immediately comes to mind. I’ve been using Dynadot for over 10 years—wait, let me check some of my older domains… Oh, those date back to 2009, so it’s actually been 15 years!
I still have a few domains registered with GoDaddy, but I recently transferred one to Dynadot as I want to move all my domains there. The transfer took about 10 days, and I had to pay an extra $10.19 USD. Interestingly, it now shows 997 days remaining until it expires (not sure how that happened).
As of now, a .com domain at Dynadot costs about $11.99 USD (Prices will change over time) which as of today is equivelent to $18 AUD. Renewing my .com domains at GoDaddy is $39.96 AUD per year. I really can’t see any justifcation in GoDaddys Pricing which turns aout to be about an 100% increase.
“What gives Godaddy!”
Dynadot is my domain name “happy place”! Here are some features that make it stand out:
- Best Pricing: Dynadot offers competitive pricing compared to other registrars, some of which have skyrocketed.
- User-Friendly Dashboard: The dashboard is very easy to navigate.
- Free Email Account: You get a free email account for each domain.
- Grace Period: If you purchase a domain and realize you made a typo, you can release it and get credited back the cost to purchase the correct version. That has never happened to me… or has it?
- No Upsells: You won’t be bombarded with upsells like some other registrars (I won’t name names).
- Prepay Option: They allow you to prepay, so you can set it and forget it (though this might not be for everyone).
- Free Website Builder: Each domain comes with a limited free website builder, allowing you to create a simple parked page. This is actually a nice feature, as parked pages can earn money from clicks—interesting, right?
- Aftermarket and Auction Bids: I discovered Dynadot during my domain and website flipping phase.
The website builder has a free version, but you can upgrade for $20 USD to unlock all features for one site per year. This makes Dynadot a one-stop shop for your domain name and website needs. I’m currently experimenting with the free version of the website builder.
However, considering the hosting deals from Cynderhost, I still prefer using third-party hosting like Cynderhost for my sites.
