So starting off on the “right foot” is always good… unless you prefer your left foot… The point is… putting out either foot is a step in the right direction.
Document Everything.
Well not everything BUT one thing I strongly suggest to anyone… is to write stuff down. And while you might be groaning “Oh no… do I have too?” It will give you more benefits than you might realize.
It’s the Old… “I have a memory like a Sieve but I remember where I wrote it down.”
Plus it makes for a good source for future content.
So How Do You Document “Stuff”?
Pen and Paper
Well of course there is the Ole Pen and Paper…. I’m still a “jotter” but it’s always a good thing to have something “Digital”. After all, you have a Computer…so why not use it?
The Trusty Ole Text Editor
So Every Single “Operating System” (Like Windows. MacOS and all Linux Systems) have a simple Text Editor. So the best approach is to create yourself a Text File and use it like a Diary or Journel.
Now as the name suggests, a Text Editor creates a Text File. This the most basic, no fluff way to get started…
Remember the Rule… Anything is better than nothing.
So one thing I like about a text editor is that it’s simple. And if you are not too sure how to use one… You can check out my Video [Insert Video Here – Still in progress].
Typical examples:
NotePad – Windows
To find the ones available on your system… Search for Text… and you should get a list of 1 or more…
NotePad++ – FREE
Sublime Text – Initially Free
RTF Editors (Rich Text Format)
This is where we take a step up from the Simple Text Editor and we can start doing some fancy Formatting (Eye Candy) with things
like Headings, Bold, Italics, Font Colors etc…
So they give you a more “Visually Appealing” aspect… But while “looks” might be important, the content is King.
And one thing they allow you to do is to add images. The ole “A Picture is worth A Thousand Words” (plus tax)
Typical Examples:
Windows has WordPad (which is a cut down version of Microsoft Word) and
Microsoft Office – PAID.
LibreOffice – FREE and works on ALL Platforms.
Google Docs – FREE – Browser Based and Shareable with others. Making it great for Collaboration on proejcts.
One I’ve been using a lot lately is called CherryTree. It was created for programmers and has a File Hierarchy Structure helping to keep everything in the one spot… Not everyone’s cup of tea and it is a bit “Quirky” but extremely usable.
I use it home and at work to help keep everything organised
I use a simple format…Something along the lines of…

So you can record what you did… maybe how you did it and what you might need to do.
Another thing you can do is create a little TODO List and use it to Note what you did and what you didn’t do…
It effectively gives you two things…
1. It shows you what you’ve done
2. It shows you how much you have done…
But the Number ONE benefit is… You can remember something like…. Oh didn’t I do….<the something> and then search for it.
That one time you don’t “record” something is the time that will cause you the most grief. I refer to it as the “Biting you on the BUM” moment… Where you are head scratching… trying to remember something BUT you never wrote it down.
So if you’ve seen something like a new Program or better yet… anything to do with the ONE you are already in then write about it… There will be task you need to do and things coming up and content and stuff to create.
NOW With AI….
I like to list what Chats I have had and a little description and the link to the conversation… yes you can go digging through your past chats but if you actually document it… it’s there, in your face and could include things you need to follow up on… Like…what happened when you implemented something and the results you got… Which reminds me… I have to go and check something.. So I’m going to go into my Diary and record the fact I checked and what happened… Fun Times 🙂
