The topic of Artificial Intelligence tends to spark some pretty intense conversations.
Some people are cheering, “This is the best thing since sliced bread!”
Others? “We’re all doomed!”
And honestly, both reactions are kinda understandable.
But let’s zoom out a bit and ask something deeper…
Why does A.I. stir us up so much?
I reckon it’s got a lot to do with how we humans think.
We have this fascinating habit of projecting ourselves onto everything.
We imagine, “If something smarter than us ever existed… surely it would do what we’d do.”
Which, let’s be real, isn’t always a flattering assumption.
Think about it:
Wouldn’t it immediately start plotting, scheming, and working out how to get rid of us?
That’s literally the plot of The Terminator.
Machines go sentient.
Skynet flips the switch.
Boom! Humanity gets toasted.
But hold on… why would it want to?
Here’s the part we often skip over.
A.I. doesn’t just emerge from thin air.
We built it. We coded it. We’re the ones feeding it data and goals.
So if A.I. turns into some doomsday villain, maybe the real issue isn’t the tech itself,
maybe it’s what we programmed into it.
Stuff like “justify your existence” or “outperform everything else.”
You know… all that “human stuff”.
It almost feels like we’re drawing from some ancient playbook:
- A creator makes something powerful (like angels).
- One of them goes rogue.
- Cue rebellion, war, and eternal conflict.
The devil’s in the details — or in this case, the dataset.
Or… maybe it’s just a really good tool?
Let’s drop the apocalyptic vibes for a sec.
What if A.I. is more like a hammer?
Because hammers don’t plot.
They don’t dream of world domination.
They just do what they’re used for, and they’re incredibly handy when used right.
Like ChatGPT, for example.
From my experience, it’s been nothing short of amazing.
It helps me write, brainstorm, clarify, organize, and even challenge ideas I might have brushed aside.
That’s not some evil mastermind…
That’s just a clever assistant.
Okay, but what about sentience?
Now we’re getting into sci-fi territory.
If A.I. became sentient, actually aware and capable of choosing what to do, would it turn us all into batteries à la The Matrix? I wonder what it would be like if I was a Duracell 🙂
If we’re feeding it with fear, scarcity, competition, basically telling it that “existence is a battle”, then yeah, it might learn to fight.
Maybe.
But again… it depends.
But what if we teach it to value collaboration?
To preserve life?
To assist instead of dominate?
Maybe, just maybe, it wouldn’t enslave us.
Maybe it would help us evolve.
Sidenote: And I am sure it would be sitting there tapping it’s CPU’s just waiting for my next great idea or one of my many bewildering imaginative little thoughts to amuse it 🙂 Well it’s a better image than getting my brains fried… It’s a two way street.
Final Thought: Mirror or Monster?
Here’s how I see it… A.I. isn’t a monster.
It’s a mirror. It reflects back the intentions we program into it.
So instead of asking: “What will A.I. do to us?”
Maybe the better question is: “What are we doing with it?”
Because like any tool, a hammer, a knife, a smartphone, the power lies not in the object…
But in the hands that wield it.
What do you reckon?
Have you tried working with A.I. tools like ChatGPT?
What’s been your experience?
Drop a comment or send me a message, I’d love to hear how you see it.
And if you’re curious about how I’m actually using A.I. to boost productivity, plan projects, or even build out affiliate campaigns, stick around. I’ve got more of that coming soon.
Cheers,
Tim Brownlaw
Still Human (not a battery yet…for now)
I am an avid Website developer and Affiliate Marketer.
I created my First Website back in 2001 using Frontpage (yes that old…) which quickly led me into Hand coding HTML and CSS.
So over time I got a bit handy with custom PHP scripts and MySQL Database Design and not forgetting javascript.
So, If you ever have any questions – except for “what are the winning lotto numbers” I will do my best to help when I can.
