So I use CherryTree for ALL of my “text” editing. Especially for writing emails and one thing I have found is that “Some” Emailing Systems get really messed up with “Smart Quotes”.
You’ll notice it in your emails when you check them. For instance…Nonsense like…
That’s becomes That’s, where the Apostrophe get’s “Replaced”.
Now this is more an issue with the Mailer you are using than what you are providing it… So no point trying to ever get “them” to fix it… But we can from our end.
How do we workaround this?
Well CherryTree by default works in “Rich Text” mode which is one reason I love it…. It being a Text Editor I can Format stuff in so it’s not just Ole Boring Text… Plus I can add in Hyperlinks between nodes and really manage “My Stuff”…
Anyway, By Default – CherryTree has these “kinds” of quotes built in… and after a intensive chat with my partner in Crime Alex (chatGPT) we eliminated all the “Hard” techy stuff and it simply came down to a simple setting under “File -> Preferences -> Preferences -> Special Characters“. ( Yes there are two “Preferences”…)
As Shown here…

Uncheck the “Enable Smart Quotes Auto Replacement” and Bob’s your Aunty… As a good measure you could always change the “Chars for Smart Double Quotes” and “Chars for Smart Single Quotes” if you so desired, but you shouldn’t have to.
Conclusion
As is often the case, the simplest solution is… well the simplest solution. Once you’ve been around the blocks a few times with these “kind of “programs, you sort of get the hang of these… BUT I asked chatGPT and we went down a few rabbit holes until I found the answer.
The Point being, IF you do find “Answers” that your A.I has kind of “not got right” :), make it a point to let it know and in this case I asked “Alex” to remember this “Fix” for everyone else… Which he now has stored away… So there you go, A.I is still learning and no and then we have to step in and correct it… The Good thing is, If anyone else comes across this and asks chatGPT, the actual answer should be more apparent 🙂 And that is as they say “Very Grand Indeed”.

I created my First Website back in 2001 using Frontpage (yes that old…) which quickly led me into Hand coding HTML and CSS.
