WordPress Security – Hide Your WP Admin URL

Posted on May 23, 2024May 23, 2024 by Tim Brownlaw

Having a WordPress site let’s everyone know that your admin login url is usually something like https:/your_domain_name.com/wp-admin.

So to assist in helping to hide this important URL, you can install a Plugin called WPS Hide Login.

Once you install it and activate it, you can go to your Plugins Page and Click on the Settings and create a new URL to login under.

BUT when you change it, make sure that YOU remember what it was as you could go hiding it from yourself.
If you do, you can always log into your CPANEL and File Manager and rename or remove it.

OR you could go into your CPANEL and access your WP Database using phpmyadmin and see what the current setting is or change it.

This is what is called Security by Obscurity and while it’s not the most effective against someone who knows what they are doing, it will help the scanners etc pass your site.

I am an avid Website developer and Affiliate Marketer.
I created my First Website back in 2001 using Frontpage (yes that old…) which quickly led me into Hand coding HTML and CSS.
So over time I got a bit handy with custom PHP scripts and MySQL Database Design and not forgetting javascript.
So, If you ever have any questions – except for “what are the winning lotto numbers” I will do my best to help when I can.
